1. Choosing the perfect Location

Each beach along Georgia’s coast has their own charm. Tybee Island offers picturesque dunes and a historic lighthouse, while Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach features striking, weathered trees. Spend time visiting potential locations to find the perfect spot that aligns with your client's vision. Consider areas that reflect your personality and style, whether you prefer serene, open sands or dramatic, rocky outcrops. A few of my go to beaches are Driftwood at Jekyll Island, Gould's Inlet at St. SImons, and Tybee Island

2. Dress for the Occasion

What you wear can have a big impact on your photos. For golden hour sessions, light, flowy fabrics in neutral or pastel tones work wonderfully, as they catch the soft light beautifully. If neutral aren't your style a pop of color doesn't hurt. However I must recommend avioding neon colors large logos, and big patterns,. Don’t forget practical considerations—since you’ll be on the beach, comfortable shoes or going barefoot can be a good choice. Accessories like hats, scarves, or even a favorite piece of jewelry can add a personal touch to your photos.

3.Timing Is Everything

Golden hour is fleeting, so precise timing is everything for a sucessfull session. A golden hour session takes place after sunrise and before sunset. Plan to meet at the beach well before the golden hour starts. This gives help avoid feeling rushed or stressed. and allows everyone time to settle in, address any last-minute details, and start shooting as soon as the light begins to soften.

Pro-tip: Afternoon golden hour tends to bring more people to beach, opting for a sunrise session is a perfect option o aviod crowds. Bonus it also you more to explore after your session.

4. Prepare to Relax and Enjoy

The best photos often come from moments when you’re relaxed and having fun. Try to schedule your shoot on a day when you’re not rushed or stressed. Arrive a little early to take a few deep breaths and get into a relaxed state of mind. Trust your photographer’s aka me guidance on posing and interacting naturally with your surroundings. Whether it’s playing in the surf, walking hand-in-hand along the shore, or simply enjoying the breeze, let yourself be in the moment. Your genuine joy and connection will shine through in the photos.

5. Embrace Natural Elements

The beauty of Georgia’s coastal beaches lies in their natural elements—gentle waves, shifting sands, and native flora. Incorporate these into your photos to add authenticity and a sense of place. Let the wind play with your hair or capture the footprints in the sand. If you’re comfortable, get into the water for some unique shots with reflections and splashes, adding movement and life to your images. Just remember to leave just your footprints in the sand and be mindful of areas that do not allow walking such as our dunes.
